About Small Town, Great War

Featured Review
This site is dedicated to preserving the memory of everyone who experienced the Great War, at home or abroad, on land, sea or in the air. Centred on the Nottinghamshire pit town of Hucknall, you will read stories from the town and its surrounding areas, bounded to the north by Mansfield and to the south by Nottingham and its suburbs.

It's a rich story, covering everything from the experience of trench life, to changes to pub opening hours; from air raids on Britain to measures increase domestic food production; from women's contribution to the war effort to the impact of the Spanish 'Flu pandemic.

The book, "Small Town, Great War" is currently being written (and has been for a long, long time, much longer than the war took). In the meantime, I give monthly talks at Hucknall Library and have been known to do others too.

Hope you enjoy the posts.
