“MUNITIONS WORK RECRUITS.
“ANOTHER RECORD ESTABLISHED IN NOTTM.
“The expectations of the officials of the Munitions Work Bureau in Nottingham that all previous records would be eclipsed this week were confirmed by yesterday’s experience.
“The bureau has had a chance by this time of becoming more widely known, with the result that the number of applicants during last evening’s three hours' sitting nearly doubled the record established on Sunday [27th June 1915].
“The literature which it was vainly hoped would arrive in time for distribution to workmen as they left the various engineering works on Saturday [26th June 1915] has since reached the city. Half of it was distributed last evening [28th June 1915] by Boy Scouts outside the larger works of the firms of the type concerned, both in the city itself and in the district. The smaller firms will receive attention to-day [29th June 1915].
“So far the majority of applicants have been residents within the boundaries of the city. There were a few from the townships on the border on Saturday, but many more are expected from the county on the two market days — to-morrow and Saturday. The final sitting of the bureau — the tenth should take place on the last-mentioned day, but it is possible another Sunday sitting will be held.
“The trade-unions whose members are eligible for munitions work are reported to be backing up the movement for all they are worth.”
