“COMPULSION FOR FRIENDLY ALIENS.
“JOIN THE ARMY OR LEAVE THE COUNTRY.
“Mr. Samuel (Home Secretary) [pictured] made the following announcement in the House of Commons yesterday [29th June 1916]:
“With regard to the presence in this country of men of military age of Allied nationality it had been decided that they must either join the British army or return to the country to which they belonged. (Cheers.)
“A special tribunal had been set up to deal with the question.”
