“MUNITION WORKERS.

“10,000 MEN A DAY, AND MORE NEEDED.

“Mr. H. E. Morgan, the Munition Ministers principal assistant, remarked last night [30th June 1915] that the enrolment of munition workers was so highly satisfactory that he thought he could say the voluntary principle had justified itself.

“It was vitally necessary, he added, that every skilled engineer not at present engaged on war work should enrol, and the greater the number who registered, the less would be the disturbance to general industry.

“War munition volunteers,” proceeded Mr. Morgan, “are now being moved daily to munition factories, and each morning shows a substantial addition to the number of war workers. During the past two days the enrolment averaged 10,000 per day.”

“Mr. Morgan expressed much satisfaction with the progress of the Department, observing that when it was remembered that the appeal was addressed to specifically skilled men who already held positions the result was very encouraging. It spoke very highly of the patriotism of the British workman.”

'Nottingham Evening Post', 1st July 1915.
