Second Lieutenant Robert Ivan Doncaster, 15th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, was killed in action 1st July 1916; he had served in France since 12th May 1916..

“DONCASTER. - In proud and loving memory of our dear son, Lieut. R. I. Doncaster, Lancashire Fusiliers, who fell at the head of his company, July 1st, 1916.” [1]

He was the 19 year-old son of factory owner Robert and Gertrude Louisa Doncaster, of The Grange, Sandiacre.

He is buried in Lonsdale Cemetery, Authuille.
