“On Sunday morning [1st July 1917] the motor detachment of the Notts. Volunteer Regiment paid a visit to Hucknall with the object of inducing the local motorists to inform themselves into a section. Arriving in the town they took up position on the Market place where there was a good array of motor cycles, cars, and other petrol-driven vehicles, which were inspected by Col. Sir Lancelot Rolleston [pictured], who also conversed with local motorists pointing out the need and also the advantages of forming a local section. It was decided to fall in with the movement, and we understand a meeting will be held at the Y.M.C.A. Rooms on Tuesday evening next [10th July 1917].”

‘Hucknall Dispatch’, 5th July 1917.
