“CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR FINED IN NOTTINGHAM FOR FAILING TO REPORT.

“Charged at the Nottingham to-day [3rd July 1916] with failing to report himself under the Military Service Act, Charles Wilshaw, 25, traveller, of 1, St. Augustine-Street, gave as his reason the fact that the tribunal did not recognise his convictions. He was an International Socialist and had always been opposed to war. He did not believe in taking life under any consideration.

“The Chairman said all that had been put before the Tribunal, and the Court had no alternative but to fine defendant 40s., and hand him over to military authorities.”

'Nottingham Evening Post', 3rd July 1916.
