Duchess of Portland, Hucknall Baby Fete, 4th July 1917

The Duchess of Portland was the principal guest at the Hucknall Baby Fete held on 4th July 1917.

“Above is a picture showing the Duchess of Portland distributing prizes to mothers for proficiency in cottage cookery, darning adaptation of adults’ cast-offs for children’s garments, regular attendance at the Nursing Association Monthly Mothers’ Gatherings at the Nurses’ Home, Beardall street, and for consistent continuous progress of His or Her Highness the Baby. The Duchess, who has been president of the Association for 20 years, is shown in the centre of the group, while to the right the figure of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor, president of the Club Delegates and Ladies’ Committees, are observable. Miss Ellis, of Debdale Hall occupies, a chair near the camera and Mrs. Hayes, of Bentinck street, has just received her prize.”
