“NOTTS. PUBLIC HOUSES.
“FIVE ORDERED TO BE CLOSED.
“Five public-houses in Nottinghamshire were ordered to be closed by the County Licensing Committee, sitting at the Shire Hall to-day [2nd July 1917]. The houses are the Musters Arms, Annesley; the Kings Head, Epperstone; the Farmers Arms, Plumtree; the Clinton Arms, Old Brinsley; and the Three Horse Shoes, Selston.
“The closing of the Three Horse Shoes was opposed by the owners (the Home Brewery Co.) and the tenant (Mr. W. Holmes), who was born in the house and had held the licence for the past 16 years.
“It was also stated that the house was built by an ancestor of the present tenant owner a hundred years ago, and that it had been licensed since 1869. Supt. Rodgers said that in the hamlet of Bagthorpe (Selston), where this house was situated, there were four on-licences, giving one to each 196 inhabitants as compared with one to every 503 persons in the district generally.
“Mr. R. A. Young, who appeared for the tenant and owners, showed that the place was well patronised and conducted, and that a petition against its closure had been signed by many of the inhabitants.”
