“TOO MUCH LIGHT.

“NOTTINGHAM SHOPKEEPERS FINED.

“A further batch of cases for offences against the Nottingham lighting regulations was heard by Mr. F. W. Dobson and Mr. R. Sands at this morning’s [2nd July 1915] Summons Court.

“Mr. H. W. Day. who prosecuted, said he was sure everybody in the town now knew about these regulations. Every precaution was taken by the authorities to bring them to the notice of the public.

“Elizabeth Thorpe, of 150, St. Ann’s Well-road, pleaded not guilty to offences by failing to reduce the intensity of the inside lighting of her shop on June 2nd and 4th.

“The police spoke to finding a bright incandescent light burning in the shop at 9.40 the 2nd. Them was no attempt at shading, and the light shone right across the road.

“A fine 15s. was imposed in each case.

“Fred Simnkins was fined 10s. in respect of an offence at his butcher’s shop in Goose-gate on June 5th.

“It was stated that the three bright lights were unshaded.”
