“PLANT POT AS WEAPON.

“NOTTINGHAM WOMAN FORGIVES SOLDIER ASSAILANT.

“Formerly charged with unlawfully wounding Ada Jones, alias Waltham, of Walnut Tree-lane, Nottingham, George Waltham, 28, 401, Alfreton-road, a member of the Royal Field Artillery, pleaded guilty at the Guildhall to-day [3rd July 1915] to assault.

“Prosecutrix at first said she did not wish to press the case, but on the Bench insisting on hearing the story, she explained that prisoner came to her house on the night of the 25th ult., and broke in by the back door. He gave her a terrible black eye with his fist, and saying he would do her in, struck her on the head with a plant pot.

“Dr. Crooks said the woman had a scalp wound two and a half inches long when admitted the General Hospital. She was detained three days.

“Prisoner said he had made over his maintenance allowance to the woman, but she had not received any money yet, and that what the bother was about.

“Remarking that was fortunate to have had the charge reduced, Mr. T. Shipstone announced that Waltham would be bound over for twelve months.”
