A former serviceman wrote on 16th July 1919 that if the Nottingham peace commemorations were to segregate officers and men he would not attend.
“EQUALITY OF SACRIFICE.
“As one who has served his country, I have received invitation to the Peace spread in the Market place on Saturday [19th July 1919], but if ex-officers are not to mix with the N.C.O.s and men they fought with, but are to have a select banquet in the Exchange, I shall not be present. Together as men, in Flanders and elsewhere, we fought together, and there should be no "class" or “distinction” on such a day. Equal were our sacrifices, and so should our rejoicings, without any distinction. – N. B.”
